This tip from our ‘Living With Pets’ series deals with the question: How to control your dog when guests arrive? The pet living scenario at our house goes something like this: As someone rings the door bell, our two dogs rush to the door both jumping and barking as one of us tries to hold them back, the other attends to our visitor. Sometimes we even go outside to welcome our guest, locking the dogs inside the house – doesn’t that seem a little upside down?
Try to keep your dog in a well defined area, which can be seen from your entrance hall. That way when your guests enter your home they would see your dog instead of being surprised from its presence.

In addition, set up a see-through fence between the door and the hall, providing your pet with a good look-out while welcoming your guests from afar.
